What is a Transfer Case?

Do you own an all-wheel drive or a 4-wheel drive vehicle? If so, then it is definitely worth knowing what a transfer case is and why it is so essential to your vehicle’s stability.

The transfer case is primarily responsible for pushing power from the transmission to the front and rear axles through a mechanism with the drive shafts. They also synchronize the differences between both the front and back wheels, preventing binding and subsequent damage to the transfer case. There are different types of transfer cases, such as gear-driven versus chain-driven, married versus divorced housing types, and M.S.O.F versus E.S.O.F transfer case shift types.

If you are still unsure about the functions that the transfer case delivers and would like to know more about whether or not it applies to your own vehicle, don’t hesitate to contact our service center at Lakeshore Chrysler Jeep Dodge for more information or to set up an appointment.”
