What Engines Come in a Ram 1500?

The engine in the Ram 1500 determines the power and the towing capability of the vehicle. While the stock engine is great for moving about town, if you want to carry heavy loads or need a higher tow capacity, you need to consider the optional higher-powered engines at the time of your purchase.

The 2018 Ram 1500 comes stock with the 3.6-Liter V-6 engine that generates 305-horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. torque. The next grade up in power comes with the 5.7-Liter V-8 built for added towing capacity with 395-horsepower generation and 410 lb.-ft torque. For the largest loads and the greatest towing capacity, try the 3.0-Liter turbo diesel engine. As always with a diesel engine, size does not equal power. This engine develops only 240-horsepower but generates 420 lb.-ft. torque where the towing power resides.
